It seems like it has been a year already when the twins were born, Sometimes it feels like yesterday. Memories from the day they were born, cut the umbilical cord and placed in my hands seems to go by so fast. Now I see what mama used to tell me, embrace every moment as the memories will last forever and no one can take those away from you.
Since then, the twins have grown so fast, thanks to God for keeping them healthy, that I haven't been able to keep up with the updates. Here is the brief outline of the months that I haven't documented. After they had been home for 2 months, and they started to see quite a bit, they were locking at a picture that we have hanging on the wall. The picture fills the whole upper wall of the fire place.
It is big enough that it regularly drew their attention and they stopped crying every time they looked at that picture. Next thing I notice is that they can push themselves against an object (play pin edges or pillows) in order to move. this didn't last long when they started rolling over, try - if I may say so - to sit up and most of all sleep overnight.
When they started sleeping overnight, I rejoiced in my heart for I could get some sleep. I met some parents that were telling me that when they had their twins, they could never sleep at night because they had to stay up much of the night. This did not scare me at all because we were determined to set their time when they go to sleep and eat. The one thing (tip for all parents with twins) that we did was to feed them at 10 or 11pm and they slept all night on a full stomach - worked like a charm. Another tip to keep them quiet and enjoy them is to have a schedule for them to eat and sleep. For us it was every 3 hours. Even though they slept overnight most of the time, me being a light sleeper, I still kept an attentive ear as they would cry and have to wake up. This gave us at least 5 hours of continuous sleep.
Not only were they sleeping overnight. They started to sit down straight at 3 months - I don't know if this is normal for most of the babies - without support and when they were laying down against a pillow, they picked themselves up and sat down straight. Everyone was telling us that they are way ahead of their schedule, I just gasped and swallowed my saliva.
Now at 6 months, they have started getting into everything that is close to them. When I have a plate of food, they look at me and try to pick up a piece of chicken from my plate. When I am drinking a glass of tea or kool aid they pull my arm down curious to see what's in the glass and sometimes try to take a sip from my cup. And when I say NO, they listen and they start laughing but still watching me eat. When their food is on the table, they want to carry the plate or when they see a bottle of milk, they get excited and they hold on to their bottles when they are drinking. I wonder if they are super kids. All I know is I am thankful to God for giving me the two blessings in my life and I will love them and take care of them the best I know how. WE will.
